Stitch Along

Join the handmade revolution, by honoring your favorite Oklahoman with an embroidered portrait! Anyone is welcome to join our virtual group, regardless of skill level.

The group will create a collection of portraits of famous Oklahomans for an Oklahoma City exhibition in late Summer and Fall 2010. Spend the winter and spring months patiently creating your work of art for this low-pressure, accessible show.  All sizes of work are acceptable, and works may be stitched on any type of fabric.

If you're not an Oklahoma resident, it's OK! Just choose
an Oklahoman to embroider and be prepared to mail the
framed piece to us by July 1.

Mailing address:
Deluxe OK LLC
PO Box 57853
Oklahoma City, OK 73157

Three public exhibitions are currently scheduled, including the Oklahoma State Fair in September.

There is no entry fee, however, you will need to pay for return postage after the exhibition ends if your piece does not sell. More logistics for sales will be announced in the spring, and participants will have the option to mark their piece "Not For Sale" and have it returned.

Need to learn to embroider or make a pattern?
Here is an online tutorial on making your own embroidery pattern from a photo. It's really easy!
Basic embroidery instruction can be seen in this video and on Jenny Hart's website
Specific stitches can be viewed here.

Thank you to Holly Hall for sharing these resources!

If you need real-life help, Amy Bindel will offer instructions and answer your embroidery questions between 2 and 6 pm. on Sunday, February 28 at Sauced in the Paseo Arts District during our monthly social craft group meeting. Bring your project!
