Real Name Holly Hall Business/Crafty Name Sweetheartville Location Bartlesville, OK What do you make? I
make a variety of vintage-inspired pieces, using vintage elements that
I pick up on my joyrides through Junkland. A lot of my creations are
happy accidents, inspired by a lucky find at an estate sale or flea market. What inspires you? I take my inspiration from the vintage pieces I love and collect, Old Hollywood glamour, the work of rodeo tailors Nudie Cohn and Manuel, vintage cookbooks and magazines, hairstyles of days gone by, American folk music, Enid Collins handbags, and the handiwork of our grandmothers and great grandmothers. What recurrent themes to you see in your work? A deep respect for the past. And rhinestones. What was the last new skill you learned? How to insert a zipper! Why do you make things? Thanks to a love of
crafting instilled in me by my mother and grandmothers, I have been
creating since I was able to hold a crayon and a paint brush. I began embroidering at the age of seven. My Mom and Grandma were what I like to call "Renaissance Crafters" all through my childhood. You name it, we tried it--country mop dolls, painted T-shirts, plastic canvas,
sewing, woodworking, tole painting, scherenschnitte, crochet, cake
decorating, and macrame. I still remember our excitement when Mom
purchased one of the first hot glue guns. Today, I create as a means of
escape and expression, and as a way to channel my estate and garage
sale addiction into something productive. |
