Monthly Archives: September 2010

The clock is ticking

Friends, take note that the deadline for Deluxe is approaching quickly. We want the best artists in Oklahoma and the surrounding area to be there, so if you haven’t applied yet, please do so! We look forward to seeing your work.

We craft for a living

Well, one of us does. JD McCoy, AKA JDStar, has been making custom t-shirt blankets for people all over America for the past 2 years and her work is unlike anything you’ve seen.

JD enjoys this work, and it allows her to stay home with her sweet baby Kate. All of the work is completed meticulously in JD’s beautiful Oklahoma City studio.

Give her your favorite 25 (or 30, or 36…) shirts and she’ll turn them into an awesome, usable blanket that is NOT a stiff t-shirt quilt like the kind we see a lot of these days.

You may have seen her booth at The Girlie Show last year or at the OSU-OKC Farmer’s market last winter. Her calendar is filling up, so if you’d like to give a blanket as a gift, now’s the time to start the process.

Samantha Lamb

Have you seen Samantha Lamb’s photography? If you’ve been to Cuppies and Joe, her art has adorned the walls there since their opening.
We love her for so many reasons. Not only is she one of our returning Delxue artists, but she lives a life of authenticity on her own farm in rural Oklahoma. Her blog posts are always cheerful and welcoming. Take a peek inside her world!

Fair keeps it fresh

Graffiti Demonstration at the 2010 State Fair of Oklahoma
Yet another bit of evidence that the Oklahoma State Fair is doing its best to engage a new generation of creative people: They hosted a graffiti demonstration! Check out this set by Rob Bennett on Flickr.

What a great State Fair!

Have you been to the State Fair yet? So many cool new exhibits, competitions and demonstrations. Today I went for the second time and saw Angela Mabray, our local Polymer Clay champ – she was doing a demonstration in the Creative Arts building with other members of her guild. They do some cool work, check them out!

Come see us at the State Fair!

It’s almost time for the Great State Fair of Oklahoma!

We have been invited to demonstrate the wonderful art of embroidery on Saturday, September 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Arts and Crafts building. Stop by and learn how to choose fabric, transfer patterns, add texture to your piece and so much more!

Marjorie Tallchief by Cheryl Powell

Sublime Stitching has graciously donated patterns for us to use during this demonstration – lucky us! Their patterns are absolutely the coolest around. We can’t wait to see you!

Stitchalong sneak peek

The entire collection of Okie Stitchalong portraits will make its debut at the Oklahoma State Fair, but you can see a couple of the amazing pieces by Deluxe royalty Holly Hall (of Sweetheartville) and her husband Jeremy at her blog.  She chose Wanda Jackson, he stitched Chuck Norris.

Another stunner is this Kristen Chenoweth portrait from Craftyminx.

All artists need to submit an online form. Please complete the form at the same time you mail your piece.
